I've been with my new family a little over 3 months now but I think it would be nice to fill you in on everything that happened since I landed on the BIN (Boxers In Need) Page of the Legacy Boxer Rescue website. Well, as it so often happens, people bring home a puppy without doing sufficient research on the breed and are overwhelmed by the time and energy it takes to care for a dog. It is a huge commitment and some people realise that only after the damage is done. The poor dog, due to no fault of it's own, ends up in shelter or worse, on the street. I was lucky that my family contacted LBR when they realised they couldn't care for me any longer. Soon after, I was evaluated by an LBR volunteer to determine my disposition, traits, health issues, etc. so that I could be placed into a suitable foster home. I grew up amongst young children, with another dog and also a cat so I was pretty much a dog for everybody except, that I am deaf. My new foster Mom had fallen helplessly in love with me and had spent many a sleepless nights contemplating whether she and her husband would be able to accommodate a deaf dog. Thankfully, they decided they would try their best and make it work!

So here I am, during the first few minutes of me having arrived in their home. I was so happy to see my new foster sister, Danica! I wanted to play so bad! I tried and tried but she just wouldn't play with me :( She just sat there and stared at Mom & Dad as if saying, "Are you kidding me!?! I thought you'd gone to get me a bone but you come home with this!?!"
However, her grumpiness lasted only till the next day and we've been best buddies ever since! We play and wrestle and chase all day long! I'll tell you more about that some other time, though.
I settled into my new home pretty quickly and made myself quite comfortable. I am proud to say I haven't had any accidents in the apartment even though I grew up in a house and was never taken out for walks! I was a bit skittish when it came to leashing up but I quickly understood that the leash meant going out and boy, do I love going out!

A few days after my arrival, came the time to visit someone who Mom calls the Veterinarian. I don't really know what happened because I was asleep most of the time I was there, but they say I won't have to go through the trouble of making puppies, ever. That's a relief! I didn't really need to add to the vast amount of doggies already out there, now did I? I pity the poor ladies that are used as puppy making machines. Some of them have to endure hunger, disease and the harshest of climates and are usually tied up in the back yard for years.

This is my request to you, please make an educated choice when looking for a puppy. It will make a huge difference in the life of at least one of us out there.

As for me, I felt pretty miserable all day. As you can see from the pictures, all I wanted to do was sleep. Danica, the sweet soul, kept me company and made sure I was comfortable.  And then Daddy came home from work and I climbed into his lap and he gave me a big hug and I felt soooooo much better! The Veterinarian also told me I was free of all kinds of worms! Yay!!! I was so glad I didn't have any of those slimy critters inside me... but most of all, I was relieved I didn't have them in my heart! Heartworms suck! Thankfully, I am now on a regular dose of Heartworm prevention and I'll never ever have to worry about those pesky mosquitoes any more.

That's it for now. Stay tuned for the next episode!

  1. It's so nice to meet you at last, Miss Pink! I've smelled you so much from when Momma went to Pet Fairs. She says you're completely wonderful. It's great of you to educate folks on what it's like to have a deaf dog.

  2. Hi Miss Pink and Danica...we came over from Casey to welcome you to blogville. You both are most beautiful. Mom has a special place in her heart for Boxers. Her very first pet when she was a child was Duke a wonderful Boxer. He loved her a lot and Mom loved him. She told me he had a white star smack in the middle of his forehead.

    1. Madi! I am so glad to know a cat that actually likes me! I grew up with a cat but he would always smack me in the face if I came too close :p
Hugs to your Mom from me :) And thanks for stopping by!

  4. Yahoo for being healthy! We're so glad that you are blogging. Do you think you'll be a foster failure? It sure sounds like your foster parents love you lots and lots.

I have a foster brother right now. My masters are holding strong.

    xoxo,

    1. Hey Nora,
thanks for your sweet note :) As much as each one of us in our home wishes it could be so, I will not be a foster failure. That is because LBR does not allow two females in one household on a long term basis. And it's good that it is that way because we girls tend to start disliking each other for no real reason after even years of having lived together as BFF's! So, I think it's better to say goodbye to my sister as long as we're still best friends :)
